Researchers from University of San Diego Ignite Social Enterprise Discourse at Keiser University, HCMC

| 16.05.2025

The Social Enterprise discussion held this morning at Keiser University, HCMC, featuring researchers from the University of San Diego, industry professionals, began with initial hesitation from the first and second-year KUV students but concluded with a wealth of knowledge drawn from extensive research projects by the University of San Diego's graduate researchers and scholars. This knowledge, through insightful understanding, was conveyed to the undergraduate students in an accessible and relatable manner, enabling them to grasp and explore the real-world innovations shaping the future of social enterprises. It also helped students gain a deeper understanding of global social enterprise trends.

Throughout the event, Keiser University HCMC students had the opportunity to meet:

Associate Professor Dr. Marcus Lam

PhD, UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, Social Welfare

Prior to joining SOLES, Dr. Marcus was on faculty at the Columbia School of Social Work in New York City. Dr. Lam has also served as a senior reseach associate at the UCLA Center for Civil Society and has published reports on the state of the nonprofit sector in Los Angeles, the state of arts and culture funding in Los Angeles, as well as methodological chapters in the Global Civil Society Yearbook.

Mr. Louie Nguyen

Chief Executive Officer of SAY San Diego (one of the largest social service agencies in the San Diego region).

Louie also serves on the board of directors for the California Endowment (a $4 billion endowment that funds vital social services in California), a trustee on the $11bn San Diego City Employees' Retirement System and formerly the Chief Investment Office of Mission Driven Finance, an impact investment firm.

Dr. Marcus Lam & Mr. Louie Nguyen have written a case study on a nonprofit foster care agency in San Diego and how its leader navigated the organization through a time of crisis. This case study will soon be part of the Harvard Business Education series and available for faculty worldwide to access and use in their courses.

Additionally, students had the chance to meet and learn from representatives of the Yunus Environment Hub, gaining firsthand experiences from individuals directly involved in social projects, particularly those focused on environmental protection in Vietnam.

Join us in revisiting the highlights of this morning's "Social Impact Business Model with insights from the University of San Diego" session.
